Kyung Hee University Accelerates Digital Transformation with Government AI Initiatives and Generative AI Platform

Kyung Hee University is making significant strides in its digital transformation journey, bolstered by its selection for key government AI-related projects and the strategic introduction of a powerful generative AI platform. These initiatives underscore the university’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge talent and enhancing its operational efficiency in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Cultivating the Next Generation of AI Talent

A cornerstone of Kyung Hee University’s digital advancement is its successful selection for the “2026 Advanced Industry Talent Training Bootcamp” project. This program, a joint endeavor between the Ministry of Education and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), is designed to equip students with practical skills directly applicable to industrial settings through intensive, short-term educational modules developed in collaboration with industry partners. Kyung Hee University’s focus within this prestigious project is the Artificial Intelligence (AI) domain.

This significant achievement comes with substantial backing, providing the university with 7.125 billion Korean won in funding over a five-year period dedicated to nurturing AI talent.

A Multi-Tiered Approach to AI Education

Kyung Hee University envisions a comprehensive bootcamp experience that synergizes its world-class AI research capabilities, robust educational infrastructure, and extensive industry collaboration network. The program is meticulously structured to accommodate learners at various stages of their AI journey:

  • Beginner Level: This foundational stage will immerse students in the core principles of AI and essential programming skills.
  • Intermediate Level: Participants will delve into advanced AI technologies and explore their practical applications across various industries.
  • Advanced Level: The curriculum will focus on sharpening practical skills through hands-on team projects directly linked with companies, alongside field-centric learning experiences.

A distinctive aspect of this educational model is its strong emphasis on reflecting the dynamic demands of industrial technology. This is achieved through close collaboration with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including universities, corporations, and specialized private educational institutions. By seamlessly integrating online and offline learning environments – creating a connected ecosystem that spans classrooms, industrial sites, and private educational facilities – students will gain AI knowledge and experience in a manner that closely mirrors real-world industrial scenarios.

Further solidifying its commitment to AI education and industry-academia synergy, Kyung Hee University inaugurated its Pangyo VI Campus in March of this year. This new campus is poised to become a central hub for AI learning and collaborative innovation, fostering a virtuous cycle where students can transition smoothly into the industrial sector, leveraging the practical project experiences acquired during their studies.

In addition to the bootcamp, Kyung Hee University has also been selected for the RISE new project, a Seoul Metropolitan Government initiative. This project specifically targets AI talent development and industry-customized education, aiming to systematically cultivate a workforce adept at meeting the evolving demands of the AI industry. The objective is to train approximately 2,000 AI-convergence core talents annually. Through this program, the university will enhance its AI-related curriculum, deliver high-level educational programs, and establish robust systems to support employment and entrepreneurship within the AI sector.

Enhancing AI Utilization Capabilities Across the University

Beyond cultivating external talent, Kyung Hee University is actively empowering its own community by enhancing AI capabilities through the introduction of its proprietary generative AI platform, “ChatKHU.” This all-encompassing platform integrates the latest advancements in large language models (LLMs), specialized image and video processing models, and even tools for national statistical data analysis. This ensures that all members of the Kyung Hee University community have access to high-quality generative AI resources.

To promote responsible and ethical AI usage, the university has developed and implemented the “ChatKHU Utilization Ethics and User Guide.” This comprehensive guide is built upon five core principles:

  • Human-Centricity: Prioritizing human well-being and agency in AI interactions.
  • Accountability: Establishing clear lines of responsibility for AI-generated outcomes.
  • Fairness and Transparency: Ensuring AI systems operate without bias and that their decision-making processes are understandable.
  • Stability and Security: Guaranteeing the reliability and safety of AI platforms and data.
  • Academic Value and Publicness: Upholding the integrity of academic pursuits and promoting the beneficial use of AI for the public good.

The guide also clearly delineates the appropriate scope of AI use, setting essential standards for responsible utilization. This includes explicit warnings against inputting confidential or sensitive internal information into the platform to safeguard data privacy and security.

All data processed by ChatKHU is securely stored within a dedicated cloud environment allocated specifically to the university. This robust infrastructure is meticulously designed to protect personal and research data, thereby mitigating concerns about potential data leaks associated with AI usage and establishing a secure and reliable foundation for AI utilization within the academic setting.

The introduction of ChatKHU marks a significant acceleration in Kyung Hee University’s digital transformation efforts, impacting its educational, research, and administrative operations. The university is not stopping at this single platform, however. It is actively preparing a suite of complementary programs, including expert lectures on AI, competitive challenges, and mentorship opportunities, all aimed at further strengthening the AI proficiency of its members.
