Operation Fansan Yamma Successfully Disables Terrorist Threat
Troops from Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have successfully neutralized a high-profile terrorist commander, Alhaji Tukur, during a critical operation aimed at protecting farmers in Dogon Kade, Zamfara State. The incident occurred on July 7 and marked a significant setback for the extremist group operating in the region.
According to Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer of OPFY, the operation not only resulted in the death of Alhaji Tukur but also left several other terrorists injured as they fled the scene. This development underscores the growing effectiveness of OPFY’s operations against militant activities in the area.
Danja further revealed that the deceased terrorist was the younger brother of Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye, a well-known figure associated with terror activities in the region. This identification highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to dismantle key figures within the terrorist networks.
Air-Land Synergy Proves Effective
One of the most notable aspects of the operation was the successful coordination between the air and land components of OPFY. The Air Component played a crucial role in intercepting a large convoy of approximately 300 terrorists riding motorcycles. These militants were reportedly moving from the Sunke-Kumbo axis towards the Bayazaki riverine area, with intentions to attack civilians in Gummi.
Three air platforms were deployed to intercept the convoy. Upon spotting the aircraft, the terrorists attempted to seek cover under trees, but they were swiftly engaged through precision airstrikes. This action disrupted the planned attack and caused substantial damage to the terrorist group.
Danja praised the Nigerian Air Force for its timely intervention, emphasizing that this operation significantly weakened the terrorists’ capacity to carry out attacks. He described the aerial interdiction as a major contribution to the broader strategy of degrading the enemy’s fighting capabilities.
Commitment to Security and Peace
The statement from Danja reaffirmed OPFY’s dedication to maintaining offensive operations against terrorist groups throughout the Northwest region. The Theatre has consistently emphasized its mission to ensure the safety of residents, protect their livelihoods, and restore peace and stability.
“The Theatre reassures residents of its unwavering commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action, protecting lives and livelihoods, and restoring lasting peace and security across the Northwest,” Danja concluded.
This recent operation exemplifies the strategic and coordinated efforts being made by security forces to counter the persistent threat posed by terrorist organizations. With continued support and collaboration, these initiatives are expected to play a vital role in ensuring long-term security for the communities affected by these conflicts.
