A dramatic series of events unfolded across Melbourne’s eastern and northern suburbs this morning, leaving two men injured and a woman hospitalised after a car was deliberately driven into a Dandenong North home. Police are currently on the hunt for a man they believe is responsible for both incidents, which are being treated as targeted attacks.
Dandenong North Incident: Car Rammed, Woman Stabbed
The alarming sequence began around 10:15 am in Exner Street, Dandenong North. A silver Honda CRV, believed to be stolen, was allegedly driven at speed into a residential property. Following the collision, the male driver exited the vehicle and reportedly stabbed a female occupant of the house.
The woman, in her 30s, sustained injuries to her upper body. Paramedics were called to the scene to provide immediate treatment, and she was subsequently transported to hospital. While her injuries are described as serious, they are not considered life-threatening. She is currently in a stable condition.
Crucially, police have stated that the woman was known to the alleged offender.
Epping Incident: Earlier Stabbing Reported
Hours earlier, around 7:15 am, a separate incident occurred in Bradman Terrace, Epping, in Melbourne’s north. Police confirmed that a 40-year-old man was also allegedly stabbed at a property in this location. Similar to the Dandenong North incident, the victim in Epping was known to the alleged offender. This man also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Manhunt Underway
Following the Dandenong North incident, the alleged offender fled the scene on foot and remains at large. Victoria Police have launched an extensive manhunt, deploying significant resources to locate the man. Inspector Graham Higginbotham confirmed that the police airwing and dog squad have been mobilised, alongside an increased police presence in the affected areas.
The suspect has been described as being of African appearance with “afro-type” hair. At the time of the Dandenong North incident, he was reportedly wearing a brown or dark-coloured top and black pants.
Inspector Higginbotham reassured the public that, at this stage, police do not believe there is a general risk to the wider community. “These appear to be instances against persons known to this person,” he stated. “So we’re not saying there’s potential for random attacks out there, but we just ask people to be careful and cautious and to contact police if they do see anyone matching that description.”
Eyewitness Account
A neighbour in Dandenong North, Kiki Muscara, reported seeing a man matching the suspect’s description walking down the street shortly after the car crash. She described the man’s demeanour as “blasé” as he walked away and then disappeared. Ms. Muscara and her husband initially did not grasp the gravity of the situation unfolding outside their home.
Appeal for Information
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed either the Epping or Dandenong North incidents, or who has any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspect, to come forward. Residents in the vicinity of Bradman Terrace, Epping, and Exner Street, Dandenong North, are particularly encouraged to review any CCTV footage they may possess and share it with authorities.
