Premcar’s Dual Approach: Differentiating the Mitsubishi Triton Raider and Nissan Navara Warrior
Australian automotive engineering firm Premcar is at the forefront of developing enhanced versions of two popular dual-cab utes: the Mitsubishi Triton Raider and the upcoming Nissan Navara Warrior. Despite these vehicles sharing a mechanical foundation, Premcar is confident that their bespoke tuning and engineering will ensure each model carves out its own distinct identity in the market, avoiding any cannibalisation of sales.
Based in Victoria, Premcar operates as a second-stage automotive manufacturer, a role that allows them to take existing vehicles and significantly upgrade them with specialised components. Their recent collaboration with Mitsubishi has resulted in the Triton Raider, a flagship ute engineered with components specifically designed to meet Mitsubishi’s rigorous standards. Simultaneously, Premcar continues its long-standing relationship with Nissan, having developed their Warrior vehicles since 2019. For the new-generation Navara, Premcar has been tasked with creating a unique suspension system, a crucial step in separating it from its Triton donor vehicle.
Andrew Lynch, Senior Engineering Manager at Premcar, addressed concerns about the potential overlap between the Triton Raider and the Navara Warrior. He explained that the distinct development paths for each vehicle are key to their differentiation.
“It’s not really a concern for us, because we take what Mitsubishi wanted with the car – they had their own direction, their own target customer in mind – and we were able to tune the whole car, the tyres, the dampers, the springs, the jounce bumpers, to match exactly what they were after,” Lynch stated. He emphasised that the Triton Raider represents a unique offering, completely separate from other programs, with parts designed and engineered exclusively for that specific model.
Mitsubishi Triton Raider: A Detailed Enhancement
The Mitsubishi Triton Raider builds upon the already capable Triton GSR, introducing a suite of significant upgrades. These include:
- Retuned Steering: For a more precise and responsive driving experience.
- Unique Monroe Suspension Dampers: Featuring modified internal valving, specifically tuned for the Raider’s performance targets.
- 18-inch ROH Alloy Wheels: Aesthetically pleasing and robust, complementing the vehicle’s off-road capabilities.
- Bridgestone Dueler A/T 002 All-Terrain Tyres: Providing superior grip and performance on a variety of surfaces.
- Front Underbody Protection: Shielding vital components from damage during off-road excursions.
- Heavy-Duty Metal Side Steps: Offering enhanced durability and practicality.
These modifications translate into tangible improvements in the Raider’s stance and handling. Premcar’s engineering has resulted in a 25mm increase in ride height at the front and 15mm at the rear. While the original rear leaf springs of the Triton are retained, the overall track width has been increased by 20mm, thanks to the fitment of the new wheels. The exterior is further distinguished by new badging and decals, both inside and out, reinforcing its flagship status.

The Upcoming Nissan Navara Warrior: A Separate Path
While the new-generation Nissan Navara Warrior has been officially confirmed, its detailed specifications are yet to be released. However, it is almost certain to retain the same powertrain as the standard Navara: Mitsubishi’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine. This engine produces a robust 150kW of power and 470Nm of torque, providing ample grunt for both on-road and off-road driving.
The Navara Warrior is expected to be based on the top-specification Pro-4X trim level and will undoubtedly feature a wider track, bespoke off-road suspension, enhanced underbody protection, and a distinct wheel and tyre package. Styling tweaks, both inside and out, will further differentiate it from its standard counterpart.

Despite the apparent similarities in the types of upgrades applied to both the Triton Raider and the Navara Warrior, Lynch reiterated that the two models will be markedly distinct. He explained that different engineering teams were involved in each program, and Premcar draws upon over two decades of accumulated chassis-tuning experience, not just from one previous platform.
“The engineers that were involved in [the Raider] program are different engineers; we’re also using learning from 20 years of chassis-tuning experience as well,” Lynch stated. He elaborated that the technology employed, such as the Monroe MTV valve, is a globally recognised standard that Premcar has utilised previously. However, the key to success lies in the ability to tune these valves specifically for each vehicle, focusing on distinct performance targets and matching the appropriate tyres to achieve the desired outcome for the target customer.

Launch Timelines
Orders for the Mitsubishi Triton Raider are now open, with the first customer deliveries scheduled to commence in June 2026. The Nissan Navara Warrior, which was previewed in November 2025, is slated for a later launch in 2026. This staggered release further allows each vehicle to establish its presence independently in the competitive Australian ute market.
