The Police Inspector-General, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, visited areas impacted by the latest attack and kidnapping in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Saturday.
The visit came after the devastating attack that took place in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026, when multiple individuals are said to have died and others were taken.
During the visit, the IGP voiced significant worry about the tragic event and offered his sympathies to the families of those who perished in the attack.
Disu was joined by the Police Commissioner of Kwara State Command, Ojo Adekimi, because the Oriire axis is strategically close to border communities in Kwara State. Additionally, the Police Commissioner of the Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, was present during the visit as part of continuous initiatives to enhance security near schools and improve emergency response systems.
The Inspector-General also met with the Police Commissioner of Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, along with other security officials, during which he was updated on current rescue operations and security arrangements in the affected areas.
During the visit, the IGP reassured locals, parents, and caregivers that the Nigeria Police Force, working with other security bodies, has increased joint search-and-rescue efforts, intelligence collection, and tactical movements to guarantee the safe return of all kidnapped individuals and the capture of those involved in the attack.
He criticized the event as “brutal and intolerable,” emphasizing that security forces would make every possible effort to bring back peace and normal conditions to the impacted areas.
Disu further ordered the allocation of more tactical and intelligence resources to enhance current operations in the region and nearby woodlands.
The Nigerian Police Force reemphasized its dedication to safeguarding schools, neighborhoods, and people throughout the nation.
