The leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Rigathi Gachagua, has requested support from his followers in the United Kingdom to fund his candidate running in Ol Kalou.

The small-scale vote in Ol Kalou was triggered by the passing of former MP David Kiaraho.

The politician, in his third term, passed away on March 29 during his stay at Nairobi Hospital.

Gachagua proposed that DCP’s victory in the by-election would mark the decline of UDA in Mt Kenya, following their outstanding performance in the 2022 general election.

Under the leadership of President William Ruto, UDA captured a significant number of elected positions in Mt Kenya, challenging the previously governing Jubilee party.

Gachagua now claims that DCP is the preferred political party for voters in Mt Kenya, cautioning those who remain loyal to Ruto thatthey would be returned home in 2027 at his directive.

In the meantime, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki vowed to defeat Gachagua’s candidate in the upcoming mini-election, signaling their second confrontation since the Mbeere North by-election in November last year.

Gachagua’s team faced a major loss during the intense Mbeere North by-election, where he promised to personally combat the UDA candidate, who eventually won the election.

Kindiki threw himself into leading the campaign, transforming the mini-poll into a direct confrontation between him and Gachagua.

In February this year, Gachagua’s team faced another losswhen government-supported candidates won the Muminji and Evurore ward by-elections.
