The Social Democratic Party (SDP), has demanded a full inquiry into the violent attempt on its National Secretariat in Abuja.
SDP argued that intelligence agencies should locate and bring to justice not just the individuals directly responsible, but also any backers or funders associated with the event.
In a statement released by Lawal Ibrahim, the Party’s Media Special Adviser to the Executive National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the Party referred to the alleged breach of its headquarters by suspected troublemakers and lawbreakers as a significant danger to public safety, party supporters, and democratic procedures.
The party noted that the attempted attack sought to interfere with operations at the secretariat before security personnel arrived and restored order.
The SDP praised the rapid response from the Nigeria Police Force and the Joint Security Task Force, noting their professionalism and adherence to the law in managing the incident.
The Party also revealed that a number of suspects were arrested, with information suggesting that dangerous weapons and banned substances were found on them.
The statement further noted, ‘We believe that all inquiries will be conducted in line with the law and standard protocols.’
It called on security agencies to guarantee that inquiries are open, fair, and comprehensive.
The SDP emphasized, ‘No person, irrespective of their position or political aspirations, should escape responsibility when evidence proves their guilt.’
