Survivor Greece Production Suspended After Contestant Suffers Severe Injury

Production on the Greek version of Survivor has been temporarily halted following a serious accident that left one contestant with a partial leg amputation. The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols on the show and prompted an immediate investigation.

The injured contestant, Stavros Floros, 21, was reportedly spearfishing off the coast of the Dominican Republic during a break from filming when the accident occurred. According to reports, he was diving without a surface marker buoy in an area known for tourist vessel traffic. A passing boat accidentally struck him, causing severe injuries to his legs from the outboard engine’s propellers. This included a partial amputation of his left leg and significant trauma to his right ankle.

AcunMedya, the production company behind Survivor Greece, confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. The company stated that there was an immediate response to assist the injured contestant and ensure his safe transportation to a medical facility.

“The competent port authorities are investigating the causes of the incident in order to fully determine the circumstances,” the company said. Floros is currently hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is no longer in danger.

Production Halted While Investigation Continues

In response to the incident, SKAI TV, the network broadcasting Survivor Greece, announced that the 13th season will be suspended until the cause of the accident is fully investigated. The network emphasized its commitment to the contestant’s health and pledged to support his treatment, hospitalization, and rehabilitation as needed.

While this is the first major injury reported on Survivor Greece, the show has not been without its share of dangerous incidents in the past. Even though no fatalities have occurred on either the Greek or original US versions of the series, several contestants have faced life-threatening situations.

Notable Incidents in Survivor History

One of the most infamous incidents occurred during season 49 of the US version of Survivor. Contestant Jake Latimer was bitten by a venomous water snake while in shallow waters in Fiji. The incident led to his medical evacuation and ended his time on the show. Host Jeff Probst later reflected on the event, emphasizing the real dangers of the game.

“Any evacuation says about this game is that it’s real,” Probst told The Hollywood Reporter. “I still get asked all the time if Survivor is real. But for anyone who still wonders, that was a real sea krait, that was a real bite, and that was a very terrifying situation.”

Another notable incident happened during the current season 50 of the US series. Contestant Kyle Fraser had to leave the game after rupturing his Achilles tendon during an intense immunity challenge. Despite his determination to stay, the severity of the injury forced him to make the difficult decision to withdraw.

Fraser shared his experience with Entertainment Weekly, stating: “I would’ve stayed. I argued with them for quite some time. Jeff will tell you. I mean, we argued for a long time. I told him I’m a lawyer, I’d sign a waiver. I want to stay out there because I think my tribe was definitely going to keep me.” However, he eventually accepted that leaving was the right choice.

These incidents highlight the unpredictable nature of Survivor and the risks that contestants face while competing in remote locations. As the investigation into Floros’ accident continues, fans and producers alike are hoping for clarity and improved safety measures to prevent future incidents.
