Opportunity Africa Unveils Pan-African Creative Council to Reshape Global Narrative
Opportunity Africa has announced the formation of a new pan-African Creative Council, a groundbreaking initiative designed to unite prominent figures from the communications, media, and marketing sectors. The primary objective of this council is to foster a more robust and unified narrative of the African continent, aligning with the ambitious goals of Agenda 2063.
The council is envisioned as a pivotal continental platform dedicated to transforming global perceptions of Africa and empowering the continent to define its own identity. It aims to achieve this by amplifying the voices, highlighting the achievements of institutions, and showcasing the compelling stories of individuals who are already instrumental in shifting existing narratives. A core tenet of the council’s mission is to unite brands, organizations, and storytellers under a shared vision encapsulated by the phrase, “The Africa We Want.”
In an era marked by escalating global competition for investment, influence, and attention, organizers emphasize that perception is no longer a secondary concern but a critical strategic imperative. The Creative Council is positioned to ensure that Africa’s narrative is authentically shaped by those actively contributing to its future development.
A Confluence of Expertise and Vision
The newly formed body comprises senior leaders who have demonstrably influenced narratives at national, regional, and international levels. Their collective mandate will be to provide strategic creative direction for the initiative, harness extensive networks across the continent, and ensure that all messaging remains credible, relevant, and deeply resonant with African cultures.
Faith Adhiambo, Communication Officer for Agenda 2063 at the African Union, expressed strong support for the initiative, stating, “This is precisely the type of collaboration Africa requires to craft a narrative that mirrors our aspirations under Agenda 2063 and helps build ‘The Africa We Want.’ This endeavor will significantly enhance our ability to communicate the Union’s priorities and amplify Africa’s collective voice.”
Moky Makura, Executive Director of Africa No Filter and a co-chair of the Council, hailed the initiative as a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to redefine the continent’s narrative. She remarked, “It is truly unprecedented to witness such a high caliber of expertise and collaborative spirit converging to build the narrative infrastructure that Africa needs to reframe its global image.”
Driving Clarity and Consistency in African Storytelling
Gina Din-Kariuki, Founder and Executive Chair of The Gina Din Group and a member of the Council, underscored the critical importance of clarity and consistency in storytelling. “Africa is abundant with progress and potential. The challenge lies in communicating both with unwavering clarity and consistency. This Council provides that much-needed focus to ensure Africa is understood with the accuracy and significance it truly deserves,” she articulated.
The inaugural members of the Creative Council represent a diverse array of influential organizations, including TRACE, Africa Practice, the African Union, Brand South Africa, IC Publications, Alpha Media Holdings, and X3M Ideas, among others.
Amplifying Opportunity and Progress
Convened by Africa No Filter and Brand Africa, with the support of partners such as the African Union, the initiative is driven by a singular aim: to position Africa as a continent brimming with opportunity, marked by continuous progress, driven by innovation, and celebrated for its creativity. By building collective momentum behind a more confident and self-assured global narrative, the council seeks to unlock new avenues for growth and development.
The formation of this council marks a pivotal moment, signalling a concerted effort to reclaim and redefine Africa’s story on the world stage. It is a testament to the continent’s growing self-awareness and its commitment to shaping its own destiny through powerful and authentic communication. The collective expertise and unified vision of the Creative Council are poised to usher in a new era of perception, one that accurately reflects the dynamism and potential of modern Africa.
