Elite Military Officer Targeted in Kitengela Robbery Plot Foiled by Detectives

A meticulously planned robbery targeting a senior military officer in Kitengela has been thwarted by swift action from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The operation not only neutralized an imminent threat but also exposed a suspected criminal network with alleged ties to serving Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and civilian collaborators.

The foiled plot came to light following an intelligence-led operation that commenced on Monday, March 23rd. Detectives received credible information regarding an impending attack, prompting immediate surveillance and intelligence gathering efforts that spanned several days.

The Operation: A Coordinated Strike

The DCI’s meticulous planning and execution were key to dismantling the criminal enterprise. Once the suspects were identified, they were placed under intense surveillance. Detectives closely monitored their movements and preparations for the planned heist.

On the day the robbery was set to occur, the suspects arrived at the target location in a black Toyota Harrier. A second vehicle, a Toyota Ractis, loitered nearby with a driver on standby, suggesting a well-coordinated operation.

The ruse began when a woman emerged from the Harrier and approached the main gate, feigning a request for entry. However, her actions were observed by the detectives who had already secured the perimeter. In a swift move, officers apprehended the woman. Simultaneously, backup teams intercepted both vehicles, leading to the arrest of five additional suspects.

Suspects Apprehended

The coordinated operation resulted in the arrest of six individuals. Those taken into custody include:

  • Charles Kiio Matata: A Sergeant in the KDF, stationed at Kahawa Garrison.
  • David Ng’aa Mwangangi: A civilian mechanic reportedly attached to Kahawa Barracks.
  • Samuel Agango Odoyo: A KDF officer currently on interdiction.
  • Alex Mumo Kisilu: Identified as being from Umoja.
  • Richard Mwania Muasya: Identified as being from Tala.
  • Stella Nzuki Mweni: Identified as being from Umoja Inner Core.

Recovered Items Raise Further Questions

A thorough search of the scene yielded a collection of items believed to have been intended for use in the robbery. The recovered articles included:

  • KDF jungle uniforms
  • Military boots
  • A crowbar
  • A claw hammer
  • A knife
  • Pliers
  • Several mobile phones

The presence of military-grade uniforms and the nature of the tools suggest a sophisticated level of planning and a potential intent to impersonate military personnel or to facilitate the operation by blending in. The recovery of multiple mobile phones also indicates a need for communication within the group and potentially with other individuals involved in their criminal network.

Ongoing Investigations

Investigators have meticulously processed the scene and have launched extensive inquiries to ascertain the full scope of the criminal syndicate’s activities. The focus is on uncovering any potential links to other criminal operations and understanding the extent of the network’s reach.

The DCI has reiterated its unwavering commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks and ensuring that all individuals engaged in illicit activities, irrespective of their position or affiliation, are brought to justice. The agency emphasized that no stone will be left unturned in pursuing this investigation and bringing all perpetrators to account. The successful disruption of this robbery plot underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and the dedication of law enforcement to maintaining public safety and security.
