All Stars Energy Park Cricket Tournament Set for Grand Return, Elevating Youth Development

The highly anticipated All Stars Energy Park Cricket Tournament is poised for its return on April 4, promising an expanded and more impactful event for young cricketers. This year’s tournament will feature 44 junior teams competing in the T20 format, underscoring a significant commitment to nurturing talent from the Under-9 to Under-19 age groups. A key highlight will be the presence of a field ambulance on-site, provided by the sponsor, ensuring player safety and well-being throughout the competition.

Abera Turk, Executive Director for Energy Park Bulk Fuels (Pvt) Ltd, articulated the deliberate strategy behind the company’s sustained involvement. “For us, it’s very intentional,” Turk stated. “If you want to make a real difference, you have to start at the grassroots level. Supporting players from Under-9 all the way to Under-19 allows us to be part of that full development journey—not just at the top, but right from the beginning.”

Energy Park views its sponsorship as an investment in life skills and community betterment. “Cricket teaches discipline, resilience, teamwork—those are life skills, not just sporting skills,” Turk explained. “At Energy Park, we see this as more than sponsorship. It’s part of our responsibility to contribute to youth development, community upliftment, and creating positive pathways for young people in Zimbabwe.”

Following a successful debut sponsorship last year, Energy Park is keen to build upon their previous efforts and elevate the tournament to new heights. “Last year really opened our eyes to the level of talent and passion coming through at grassroots level,” Turk recalled. “What we learned very quickly is that these young players don’t just need sponsorship—they need structure, consistency, and a professional environment to grow in.”

The importance of the tournament extends beyond the young athletes. Turk noted, “We also saw how important the experience is for families and coaches, not just the players.” This insight has shaped the focus for the current year.

Enhancing the Tournament Experience: Structure, Professionalism, and Impact

For the 2026 edition, the emphasis is on a comprehensive upgrade of the tournament’s overall standard. Key areas of focus include:

  • Improved Organization: Streamlining logistics and operational efficiency to ensure a smoother experience for all participants.
  • Smoother Scheduling: Optimizing match timings and venue allocations to minimize disruptions and maximize playing time.
  • Stronger Engagement: Deepening connections with cricket academies and coaches to foster a more integrated development ecosystem.

“We want it to feel more structured, more professional, and ultimately more impactful,” Turk affirmed. As the tournament enters its fourth edition and Energy Park enters its second year as the lead sponsor, the company’s objective is to transition from mere event support to building a sustainable initiative that grows and evolves annually.

Beyond Branding: Cultivating Potential and Creating Opportunities

Turk emphasized that the primary goal transcends brand visibility. “At the end of the day, if we can inspire even a few of these young players to believe in their potential, then we’ve done something meaningful. For us, branding is actually the smallest part of it,” she stated. “What matters is the experience and the opportunities we create for the players.”

This year’s developmental focus is multifaceted:

  • Professional Environment: Cultivating a well-run tournament that mirrors professional standards.
  • Enhanced Exposure: Providing players with greater visibility and opportunities to showcase their skills.
  • Support Structures: Strengthening the networks surrounding the players, including coaches, academies, and families.

Looking ahead, Energy Park is committed to expanding its developmental initiatives. Future plans include:

  • Coaching Clinics: Offering specialized training sessions to enhance coaching capabilities.
  • Mentorship Programs: Connecting experienced individuals with young players to provide guidance and support.
  • School Partnerships: Forging stronger collaborations with educational institutions to integrate cricket development.

The overarching aim is simple: “Every player should leave the tournament feeling like they’ve grown, been recognised, and are motivated to take their game further,” Turk concluded.

A Foundation for Growth: Shifting from Gratitude to Ambition

Phillimon Kadziche, the tournament coordinator, highlighted how Energy Park’s continued sponsorship allows for a shift in focus. “Retaining Energy Park lets us shift from gratitude to ambition,” Kadziche remarked. “Year four is about deeper roots—more teams, better safeguarding, and a clear link between junior cricket and school sport.”

The consistent backing from Energy Park provides the stability needed to prioritize critical aspects of the game’s development. “Energy Park’s commitment means we can focus on what matters—safe venues, trained umpires, and making sure cost never locks talent out,” Kadziche added.

The tournament’s growth from humble beginnings to a recognized fixture is a testament to this sustained partnership. “The tournament started small. Holding our lead sponsor for a second year shows families—and us—that this is now a fixture, not a favour.” This stability ensures that the focus remains firmly on fostering the next generation of cricketers.
