Dhaka, May 17 — Brazilian defender Paulo Henrique is racing against time to recover in time for the FIFA World Cup, following his absence from Vasco da Gama’s Serie A match against Internacional on Saturday because of an ankle injury.
A 29-year-old right-back sprained his right ankle in Vasco’s midweek Copa do Brasil match against Paysandu and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.
“The athlete is receiving intensive care and was given rest to handle the workload,” Vasco stated in a social media post.
Manchester City aims to break its run of FA Cup final defeats against a struggling Chelsea.
Paulo Henrique has been included in Brazil’s initial 55-player list for the FIFA World Cup, scheduled to start on June 11 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to reveal the 26-player team on Monday in Rio de Janeiro.
Paulo Henrique has received two international appearances for Brazil and netted his initial goal for the national team in a friendly match against Japan last October.
