Motorway Milestone: Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima Project Nears Completion
The ambitious Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima motorway project is on the cusp of a significant breakthrough, with civil engineering works now exceeding 99% completion. This vital infrastructure development is poised for a trial opening in 2026, paving the way for full commercial operations the following year.
The Department of Highways has been diligently accelerating construction on Motorway No. 6, a 196-kilometer artery connecting Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima. As of February 2026, civil works across the entire route had reached an impressive 99.1% completion. Concurrently, the installation of essential systems is progressing robustly, standing at 89.1%.
Out of the project’s 40 distinct construction sections, 38 have already been successfully completed. The remaining two sections are currently the focus of intensified construction efforts, spanning across the provinces of Ayutthaya, Saraburi, and Nakhon Ratchasima.
Focusing on the Final Frontiers
The remaining construction segments represent critical links in the motorway’s chain.
-
Section 4: This section, located between kilometer markers 9 and 15 within the Wang Noi district of Ayutthaya, is a key area of focus. Current efforts are concentrated on the construction of eight bridges. Among these, two bridges are situated on the main motorway alignment, strategically positioned near a water reservoir on the left side of the route. The installation of bridge girders is currently underway, a crucial step preceding the construction of the bridge decks and railings.
-
Section 21: The second unfinished segment, Section 21, covers kilometer markers 82 to 86. This stretch traverses the Muak Lek district in Saraburi and the Pak Chong district in Nakhon Ratchasima. This segment is being engineered to a special standard, designed as a six-lane roadway. Both of these final sections are anticipated to be fully completed within the current year, 2026.
Systems Integration: The Backbone of Modern Motorways
Beyond the physical construction of the roadway, the integration of advanced systems is crucial for the motorway’s efficient and safe operation.
-
Toll Plaza Infrastructure: The construction of essential facilities at all nine toll plazas is nearing absolute completion, standing at an impressive 99.8%. This includes control buildings, government service facilities, operation and maintenance buildings, and vital safety installations. The nine toll plazas are strategically located at:
- Bang Pa-in
- Wang Noi
- Hin Kong
- Saraburi
- Kaeng Khoi
- Muak Lek
- Pak Chong
- Sikhiu
- Kham Thale Sor
-
Electrical Power Supply: The critical electrical power supply system for the entire route has achieved 85% completion, ensuring reliable energy for all operations.
-
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS): The sophisticated intelligent transport systems, designed to manage and control traffic flow, are a testament to the project’s forward-thinking approach. These systems have reached 92% completion, promising advanced traffic management capabilities.
The nearing completion of the Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima motorway signifies a major leap forward in Thailand’s transportation network, promising enhanced connectivity and economic opportunities for the region. The accelerated pace of construction underscores the commitment to delivering this vital piece of infrastructure efficiently.
