Labor Party Chairman Expresses Confidence in Governor Alex Otti’s 2027 Return
The Abia State Chairman of the Labor Party, Mr. Peter Azubuike, has made bold claims about the party’s strength and stability ahead of the 2027 general elections. During an interactive media engagement in Umuahia, Azubuike emphasized that the Labor Party is the most structurally sound and administratively robust political entity in the state.
He highlighted that the party’s strong grassroots presence has attracted a significant number of stakeholders and supporters from other parties. This influx, he said, reflects the confidence that people have in the Labor Party’s ability to deliver on its promises and maintain political stability.
A Strong Foundation for Future Elections
Azubuike stated that the party’s solid structure is a key factor in its growing influence. He pointed out that Otti won the 2023 election as an independent candidate, not because of the so-called “Peter Obi wave.”
Otti, according to Azubuike, had already been building his political momentum long before the emergence of any other prominent figures in the state. He recalled that Otti first ran for governor in 2015 and won, although he was later denied the victory due to alleged electoral irregularities. In 2019, he faced similar challenges again.
“Otti moved into the Labour Party before Peter Obi. That means his political calculations were much advanced, and if that election was done without Obi in the picture, he would have won his election landslide,” Azubuike said.
The Otti Wave: A Natural Political Force
Azubuike described the “Otti wave” as a natural phenomenon that has been present since 2015. He argued that any political aspirant in Abia must contend with the influence of Otti, regardless of the broader political trends.
“Otti’s wave has been here substantially since 2015, such that anybody who wants to run for election, his biggest challenge will always be, that man, Otti. So with all due respect to the Obi wave, the Otti’s wave has always been substantial since 2015,” he added.
This sentiment underscores the deep-rooted support for Otti among Abians, which Azubuike believes is a critical asset for the Labor Party as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

The Labor Party Chairman urged all Abians to continue supporting Governor Otti, citing his record of good governance as a key reason for their trust. Otti, he said, has restored the dignity of the Abia people and rekindled their confidence in the Labor Party.
