Ranking the 10 best match types in WWE games history [opinion]

Posted on

WWE has a lot of varied types of matchups throughout its universe, and the WWE games have tried to bring almost all of those into the gaming universe.

With so many types available at your disposal, you can get a more immersive feel to the entire WWE experience that the games provide. But which ones rank the best among the many available to be selected?

We take a look at them below.

1. Royal Rumble (2K15–2K26)

The Royal Rumble, especially the 30-man Edition, is a spectacle and almost an otherworldly experience for all WWE enthusiasts. Outlast other competitors inside the ring to become the ultimate winner.

Easy tips to avoid getting out early are by avoiding the ropes and, honestly, trying to go with the majority in the early game. Whittle down the numbers before you can start targeting other strong competitors.

2. Money in the Bank Ladder (2K23–2K26)

The premise is easy but iconic. A briefcase, presumably filled with money, hangs in the air in the center of the ring. You must be the first one to use a ladder to climb, grab the briefcase, and snatch it from the hook.

Money in the Bank will involve late drama, especially since the long, drawn-out battles will deal a lot of damage to each competitor. The win condition being different than a submission or elimination makes this match a highly popular choice.

3. Elimination Chamber (2K23–2K26)

Six competitors partake in this match type, with two starting the battle and others being released from their chambers after certain intervals.

The Elimination Chamber’s design makes for unique attacks, and while pinning or submission is still the way to win, sub-conditions such as the order of entry have the ability to dictate the outcomes heavily.

4. Hell in a Cell (2K23–2K26)

Caged in a cell with a lot of props at your disposal, Hell in a Cell is an extreme match type that will test your endurance and ability to use props optimally.

The win condition is still the same — you must pin your opponent or force a submission. However, Hell in a Cell allows you to use tables, chairs, and other props to your advantage, something that adds to the hellish feel of the caged ring.

5. TLC (2K23–2K26)

Short for Tables, Ladders, and Chairs, you can already guess why people love this match type. You can use all of these props, and you are not even bound by the cage like the Hell in a Cell matchups.

The win condition can vary between normal and be similar to what we see in the Money in the Bank matchups.

6. Extreme Rules (No Holds Barred) (2K23–2K26)

A normal match type where you still win with a pin or a submission. However, nothing can disqualify you. It’s mano-a-mano between you and your opponent, with weapons and all illegal maneuvers allowed by the referees.

Chaos is a ladder, and here you can use everything to create and revel in that chaotic environment. Experiment and push the limits of how and how much you can torture your opponent in this no-holds-barred matchup.

7. Steel Cage (2K23–2K26)

A normal match type, except in an enclosed surrounding, the Steel Cage puts you within the confines of a (you guessed it!) Steel Cage, with no one but you, your opponent, and a referee inside.

Win conditions can sometimes stretch to include escape from the cage, through the roof, or sometimes, the door as well. However, most games will also end up finishing with a pin or submission.

8. Last Man Standing (2K23–2K26)

A unique matchup where the win condition relies on the opponent not being able to get up within the 10-count. You normally see the 10-count being deployed in boxing matches.

This matchup will allow you to push the limits of how badly you can hurt each other, with the one who cannot get back up on their own feet losing in the end.

9. Fatal 4-Way (2K23–2K26)

A Fatal 4-way is a unique combination in that it is a 4-man matchup where players will get eliminated through normal conditions, like pin or submission.

The concept of teaming up without actually teaming up adds an extra spice to these matches, with the key win condition being pinning or forcing any of your other opponents to submit.

Get ready for others to interrupt your attempts to win continuously, making this a very interesting and complex match type.

10. Iron Man (2K23–2K26)

The only timed match type on this list, and deservedly so. In this match type, the win condition is to pin or force submission on your opponent more times than you.

You earn a fall every time you pin your opponent, force them to submit, or get counted out or even disqualified. The player with the most number of falls earned after the timer runs out wins.

You can use unethical means to get disqualified and lose a fall, but inflict enough damage to ensure the tide of the match turns in your favor. Iron Man is an interesting concept with the timer always in the back of your mind.

Which type of match do you like playing the most in WWE?
