Weapons Discovery Disrupts Texas Attorney General’s Election Night Event
A security scare unfolded outside Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton’s election night watch party in Dallas, Texas, after a man was arrested with a cache of weapons found in his unmarked vehicle. The incident, which occurred shortly before the event was set to begin, involved the discovery of numerous ammunition cartridges and boxes of ammunition.
The detained individual was observed by witnesses to be wearing a camouflage face mask, sunglasses, a hat, and gloves as he stood outside the Marriott’s Dallas Uptown location. The discovery cast a shadow over a high-profile campaign event for Paxton, who is currently engaged in a fierce primary contest against incumbent Senator John Cornyn and Congressman Wesley Hunt.
The Suspicious Encounter
The unsettling events began when a Paxton campaign staffer noticed a man entering the hotel and requesting to use the restroom. This action immediately raised concerns among the staff present. A hotel employee, who wished to remain anonymous due to the ongoing police investigation, stated that they had a brief interaction with the man. During this conversation, the individual claimed to be an Uber driver.
However, this explanation quickly triggered further suspicion. According to the staff member, the vehicle the man was operating appeared to be missing its license plates, a detail that significantly heightened concerns about his true intentions.

Police Intervention and Investigation
Law enforcement officers responded promptly to the situation and subsequently searched the vehicle. During the search, officers were seen removing a license plate from the interior of the car. Authorities have thus far declined to comment on the specific reasons for the man’s detention. It remains unconfirmed whether the suspect was armed when he entered the hotel premises.
The incident caused a tense disruption just prior to the scheduled opening of the campaign event at 6 PM Central Time. A considerable number of Paxton’s campaign staff and members of the media had already gathered inside the hotel. This occurred as polls across most of Texas were nearing closure at 7 PM Central, with the exception of some western counties.
Event Proceeds Amidst Tensions
Despite the unsettling disruption, Ken Paxton was still slated to appear and address his supporters later in the evening. The Attorney General is widely considered the frontrunner in the Republican primary race. However, projections suggest he may not secure enough votes to win the election outright, potentially forcing a runoff against incumbent Senator John Cornyn. The discovery of weapons near the event venue has added an unexpected layer of tension to an already closely watched political contest.
