Operation Whirl Stroke Secures Key Rescues and Arrests in Benue State

Benue State, Nigeria – In a significant display of its commitment to restoring peace and security, troops operating under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued a kidnapped woman and apprehended two suspected armed herders in Benue State. The operations, conducted in collaboration with local security outfits, underscore the ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and safeguard communities.

The rescued individual has been identified as Mrs. Member Ityavber, a 28-year-old woman who was abducted in Tse-Ubena village, located within the Yooyo Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. The successful rescue operation was a direct response to intelligence reports regarding kidnapping activities in the area.

Details of the Rescue Operation:

  • Location: Tse-Ubena village, Yooyo Council Ward, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State.
  • Objective: To counter reported kidnapping incidents and rescue victims.
  • Executing Forces: Troops deployed from Tor-Donga, working in close coordination with operatives from the Benue Civil Protection Guard, a state-level security initiative.
  • Outcome: The safe recovery of Mrs. Member Ityavber, who was held captive.

The OPWS spokesperson highlighted the collaborative nature of the operation, emphasizing the synergy between the military and local security personnel. This partnership has proven vital in effectively addressing security challenges across the region.

Broader Security Operations and Arrests:

Beyond the successful rescue, OPWS troops have also made significant strides in apprehending individuals involved in other criminal activities. Acting on credible intelligence, troops conducted thorough searches in the Mbapa and Mbabuande areas of Gwer West Local Government Area. These efforts led to the discovery of an abandoned hideout suspected to be used by criminals.

Further clearance operations, extending across the River Akpako, resulted in the arrest of two individuals believed to be armed herders. These suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing further investigation to ascertain their involvement in any criminal enterprises.

The Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, has commended the troops for their swift response and professional conduct during these operations. He reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Joint Task Force to ensuring a secure environment for all residents, particularly as the crucial farming season approaches. The security forces aim to provide a stable backdrop for agricultural activities, which are vital to the livelihoods of many in the state.

The continuous efforts of Operation Whirl Stroke are crucial in fostering a sense of safety and security, allowing communities to focus on their development and economic activities without the constant threat of criminal elements. The success of these recent operations sends a clear message that security agencies are actively working to dismantle criminal networks and bring perpetrators to justice.
