Trinity University Lagos Welcomes 724 New Students for 2025/2026 Academic Session

Trinity University Lagos has officially welcomed a new cohort of 724 students for the 2025/2026 academic session. The matriculation ceremony, the eighth in the university’s history, saw 715 students admitted across its various faculties and 18 fully accredited degree programmes. Additionally, nine students pursuing diploma programmes were also formally admitted into the academic community.

The significant event was graced by Professor Joseph Babalola Ayodele, the Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), who delivered a compelling lecture.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Professor Clement Kolawole, addressed the newly matriculated students, emphasizing the importance of dedicated academic pursuit and exemplary conduct. He urged them to focus on their studies and other legitimate activities, stressing that good behaviour should extend beyond the university campus. Professor Kolawole highlighted the competitive nature of university admissions, noting that the students should consider themselves fortunate to have gained admission into Trinity University from a large pool of applicants nationwide. He assured them that the institution is well-equipped to impart essential knowledge, cultivate strong character, and develop vital skills.

Professor Kolawole also acknowledged that as young adults, students will experience a degree of freedom. However, he cautioned that this freedom comes with inherent restraints, guided by the university’s established rules and regulations. He made it clear that any student found to be in violation of these statutes would face appropriate sanctions.

“Therefore, you are not expected to engage in examination malpractice, fighting, or immorality, nor should you allow procrastination or laziness to hinder your progress. Instead, focus on managing your time wisely,” Professor Kolawole advised. He further encouraged the students to seek guidance from the word of God and wisdom, referencing the principles found in Ecclesiastes 3:1.

He confidently declared that Trinity University possesses the necessary human and material resources to provide a robust education, enabling graduates to compete effectively with their global peers. Professor Kolawole also noted the university’s recent expansion of its academic offerings, with three new programmes introduced in the past year: Hospitality and Tourism, Courier and Logistics Management, and Biochemistry.

Setting Goals and Embracing the Journey

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Pastor Samuel Olatunji, extended his congratulations to both the students and their parents. He strongly encouraged the students to set clear goals for themselves and to pursue them with unwavering determination.

Pastor Olatunji likened the path to success in life to a challenging ascent, requiring significant sacrifice and effort. He advised the students to navigate this journey with patience and a profound fear of God, ultimately aiming to achieve their aspirations.

“Our vision is unequivocally to be a world-class university, and our mission is to effectively and comprehensively equip our students. Our identity as an institution is built on the Rock of Ages, and we are committed to achieving all-round excellence,” Pastor Olatunji stated.

He further counselled the students: “I urge you to possess a clear vision and definite goals, invest your time wisely, work diligently and be dedicated. Take care of your spiritual well-being, associate with the right people, consistently monitor your progress, and embrace lifelong learning.”

Navigating University Challenges Through Psycho-Social Adjustment

The guest speaker, Professor Joseph Ayodele, delivered an insightful lecture titled “Coping with the Challenges of University Education in Nigeria: The Role of Psycho-Social Adjustment.” He advised the students to be guided by fundamental principles such as self-awareness, continuous self-development, and resilience, all anchored in their faith.

Professor Ayodele explained that these virtues would be instrumental in helping them overcome the inevitable challenges that may arise on their path to academic and personal success. He acknowledged the diverse array of potential obstacles, including financial constraints, social pressures, mental health concerns, peer influence, and distractions from social media.

“However, fear not,” he reassured the students. “The Almighty God who has brought you to this point knows how to assist you. He knows how to empower you. He knows how to support you to overcome these challenges and become who He has destined you to be.”

Professor Ayodele shared a personal anecdote, recalling how the convergence of challenges during his own university days spurred him to action and sharpened his focus on achieving academic excellence. He testified to the enduring support he has received from God since then.

“He will also help you, as long as you remain focused and committed to your studies,” he concluded, offering a message of hope and encouragement to the new students embarking on their academic journey at Trinity University Lagos.
