Akwa Ibom Police Clamp Down on Criminality with Key Arrests and Seizures
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities, achieving significant successes in recent operations across the state. Through a series of targeted raids conducted in Eket and Okopedi, authorities have apprehended four individuals and confiscated a cache of firearms and illicit drugs. These actions underscore the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Akwa Ibom residents.
The Public Relations Officer for the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, DSP Timfon John, detailed the outcomes of these operations in a statement released on Sunday. The successful arrests and seizures, which occurred on March 21, 2026, were the result of meticulously planned, intelligence-driven operations designed to disrupt criminal networks operating within the state.
Raids Target Criminal Hotspots and Suspicious Activities
One of the pivotal operations took place in Okopedi, where police operatives descended upon a location known to be a hub for criminal elements. At approximately 7:45 pm, the raid led to the apprehension of four individuals. The suspects have been identified as Paul Sunday, Nelson Ekpa, Akaninyene Valentine, and Idongesit Harrison.
During the search of the premises, law enforcement officers discovered incriminating evidence directly linked to substance abuse. The suspects were found in possession of items commonly used in the preparation and consumption of illicit substances. Notably, several empty “Squadron” bottles, frequently associated with drug use, were recovered. Further bolstering the evidence against the suspects, quantities of crystal methamphetamine, often referred to as “Ice,” were also seized.
In a separate but equally important operation, police responded to reports of suspicious activity on Abia Uduk Street, Ikot Ebok. Upon the arrival of law enforcement officers, individuals believed to be involved in illicit activities immediately fled the scene. In the ensuing pursuit, one of the fleeing suspects discarded a yellow nylon bag.
This abandoned bag was promptly recovered by the pursuing officers. A thorough examination of its contents revealed two locally made pistols and two live cartridges. The presence of these firearms indicates a serious threat posed by the individuals involved and highlights the success of the police in intercepting potential violence.
Ongoing Investigations and Commitment to Security
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed that all apprehended suspects are currently in custody. The investigations into their alleged criminal activities are actively ongoing, with authorities working diligently to gather further evidence and understand the full scope of their operations. The command emphasized that no stone will be left unturned in bringing those involved in criminal enterprises to justice.
The command reiterated its steadfast dedication to eradicating criminal elements from Akwa Ibom State. This commitment is not merely rhetoric but is actively demonstrated through consistent and proactive law enforcement efforts. The police are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and to play an active role in maintaining security by providing timely and useful information to support ongoing security initiatives. Confidentiality and security of informants are assured, encouraging greater community participation in the fight against crime.
