UNITEL Launches on Capital Market with Strong Financial Performance

UNITEL, Angola’s leading telecommunications operator, made a significant move into the capital market this week, marking a pivotal moment in its corporate history. The company reported a net profit of 158 billion kwanzas for the 2025 financial year, as revealed by the chairman of the company’s Executive Committee, Amílcar Safeca. This achievement underscores the company’s strong financial foundation and its ability to maintain liquidity and investment capacity.

Safeca emphasized that these financial indicators reflect the resilience of UNITEL’s business model, highlighting the scale of its operations and its capacity to generate sustainable value. He noted that for investors, these fundamentals are crucial. An attractive company is not just defined by its past performance but also by its ability to execute, grow, adapt, and deliver consistent results.

The company’s entry into the capital market demands greater discipline and internal control, along with improved corporate governance, to ensure long-term value creation. Safeca assured that UNITEL is well-prepared for this new phase, with priorities focused on enhancing network coverage, quality, and capacity, as well as accelerating technological advancements, including the development of 5G and next-generation connectivity solutions.

In addition to expanding its technological capabilities, UNITEL is also looking to grow its digital, financial, and business services. These areas present opportunities for both private customers and businesses, while also focusing on improving operational efficiency through better capital utilization, cost control, and faster execution.

Following the IPO, UNITEL plans to continue investing in strategic infrastructure that supports the future of the digital economy. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Privatization Program (PROPRIV), which is currently ongoing and will conclude on the 24th of this month.

Details of the IPO Offering

The IPO offering includes 7.5 million registered, book-entry common shares, each with a par value of 5,000 kwanzas. These shares represent 15% of the company’s total share capital, which comprises 50 million shares. The entire share capital is expected to be admitted for trading on the stock exchange.

The offering is open to both employees and the general public. Specifically, 1 million shares—equivalent to 2% of the company’s share capital and voting rights—are reserved for employees. For the general public, 6.5 million shares have been allocated, representing 13% of the company’s share capital and voting rights.

With over 21 million customers and a nationwide presence, UNITEL is one of Angola’s most prominent and recognized brands. The company currently has three shareholders, and through this IPO, millions of Angolans now have the opportunity to join the existing shareholders and contribute to the operator’s growth.

Key Stakeholders Involved

The launch event was attended by representatives from several key institutions, including the Angolan Insurance Regulation and Supervision Agency (ARSEG), the Institute for the Management of State Assets and Participations (IGAPE), the Capital Market Commission (CMC), the Angola Debt and Securities Exchange (BODIVA), and financial intermediaries involved in the transaction, such as BFA Capital Markets (BFACM), Áurea, and Banco Caixa Geral Angola (BCGA).

Currently, five companies from the financial sector are listed on the country’s stock exchange (BAI, ENSA, Banco Caixa Geral Angola, BFA, and BODIVA). UNITEL will be the sixth listed company and the only one from the telecommunications sector.
