Police Community Relations Committee Hails New AIG for Zone 2, Rejects Calls for Replacement

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) across Lagos and Ogun states has voiced strong commendation for the recent appointment of Moshood Jimoh as the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) overseeing Zone 2. The committee expressed unwavering support for AIG Jimoh, stating that his elevation to this crucial leadership role instills significant confidence among all stakeholders within the two influential states.

In a formal statement released, Uthman Jagunmo, the Chairman of the PCRC Zone 2 Command Caretaker Committee, highlighted the committee’s positive reception of the appointment. He described AIG Jimoh, formerly the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, as an exceptionally qualified individual perfectly suited for the responsibilities of Zone 2.

The statement elaborated on the committee’s rationale: “We received his appointment with great confidence, anchored on his proven track record, professionalism, and demonstrated capacity in crime prevention and control, particularly during his distinguished service in Lagos State. Jimoh’s wealth of experience and operational competence make him well-suited for this critical responsibility at this pivotal time.” This sentiment underscores the belief that AIG Jimoh’s past performance and extensive experience are strong indicators of his ability to excel in his new capacity.

Upholding Institutional Integrity: PCRC Condemns Calls for Replacement

Beyond expressing support, the PCRC took a firm stance against any suggestions or calls for AIG Jimoh’s replacement. The committee unequivocally condemned such demands, labeling them as inappropriate and potentially damaging to the overall integrity and operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The PCRC unequivocally condemns, in its entirety, calls for the replacement of AIG Moshood Jimoh,” the statement declared. “Such calls are not only unwarranted but also undermine the institutional integrity and established procedures governing postings within the Nigeria Police Force.” This strong denouncement emphasizes the committee’s commitment to respecting established protocols and discouraging undue external pressures on police administrative decisions.

The PCRC further stressed the importance of allowing the appropriate authorities to manage police postings without external interference. They asserted, “We firmly assert that the deployment and posting of police officers are administrative matters that must remain within the purview of the appropriate authorities, free from the pressures of political jobbers and commercial activists seeking relevance.” This highlights a concern that such calls may stem from vested interests rather than genuine concern for public safety and police effectiveness.

A “Round Peg in a Round Hole”: The Case for AIG Jimoh

The committee went on to articulate why they believe AIG Jimoh is the ideal candidate for the Zone 2 command. They characterized his appointment as fitting perfectly with the demands of the region, stating, “AIG Moshood Jimoh represents a round peg in a round hole—an officer whose competence aligns perfectly with the demands of policing in Zone 2.” This metaphor emphasizes a harmonious match between the officer’s skills and the specific challenges and requirements of the zone.

Furthermore, the PCRC emphasized the critical need for stable and strategic leadership in the current security landscape. “At a time when strategic leadership and stability are essential, he stands as a dependable figure capable of consolidating gains in public safety and security.” This points to AIG Jimoh’s perceived ability to build upon existing security successes and provide a steady hand in managing the region’s safety.

A Call for Collective Support

In conclusion, the PCRC issued a direct appeal to all stakeholders to rally behind AIG Jimoh in his new role. They urged for their active support in his efforts to maintain peace and enhance security throughout the Zone 2 area.

“The PCRC in Lagos and Ogun States, therefore, calls on all well-meaning stakeholders to support AIG Jimoh in the discharge of his duties, in the collective interest of peace, security, and community development,” the statement concluded. This call to action underscores the collaborative approach the PCRC advocates for in ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities they serve.

This redeployment follows a recent promotion for Jimoh to the rank of AIG. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, orchestrated this move as part of a broader strategy to bolster operational effectiveness, strengthen leadership capacity across various police commands, and ultimately improve the quality of service delivered nationwide. According to a statement from DCP Anthony Placid, the Force Public Relations Officer, these strategic postings are integral to the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to maintaining an efficient command structure and ensuring the optimal deployment of its personnel.
