Alleged Shooter Pleads Not Guilty in Incident at Rihanna’s Los Angeles Residence
A 35-year-old woman, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, has entered a plea of not guilty to a series of serious charges, including attempted murder, stemming from an alleged shooting incident at the Los Angeles home of global superstar Robyn Rihanna Fenty, widely known as Rihanna. The events in question transpired on March 8, placing the singer, her partner A$AP Rocky, their children, and other individuals present at the residence in potential peril.
Ortiz, who hails from Orlando, Florida, is accused of discharging a firearm towards the property while it was occupied. The legal proceedings have seen her formally charged with one count of attempted murder specifically targeting Rihanna. Furthermore, she faces ten counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an occupied vehicle or dwelling. These charges underscore the gravity of the alleged actions and the potential danger posed to those within the vicinity.
During a court appearance at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Ortiz, through her legal counsel, also entered a plea of not guilty to the additional charges. The defendant, if convicted on all counts, could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. She is currently being held in custody with bail set at $1.8 million.
Represented by deputy public defender Derek Ray Dillman, Ortiz appeared in court from a custody area, clad in yellow prison attire. She made a brief statement to waive her right to a speedy preliminary hearing. This crucial pre-trial stage is where a judge assesses whether sufficient evidence exists to proceed to a full trial.
According to District Attorney Nathan Hochman, at the time of the shooting, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were reportedly inside an Airstream trailer located on the property. Meanwhile, Rihanna’s mother, their children, and household staff were believed to be in the main residence. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no one sustained any injuries during the incident, despite approximately 20 shots being fired at the Beverly Crest property.
Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott described the alleged incident as a “dangerous, deliberate shooting into occupied homes.” He emphasized the potential for catastrophic outcomes, stating, “This is the kind of conduct that could easily have resulted in multiple homicides.”
Law enforcement apprehended Ortiz several hours after the shooting. She was reportedly found alone in her vehicle, at which point officers allegedly recovered a rifle, additional ammunition, and a wig, which authorities believe was intended for disguise.
Publicly available records indicate that Ortiz has a professional background as a licensed speech pathologist, a career she has reportedly pursued for over a decade.
Rihanna, a celebrated nine-time Grammy Award winner, is renowned for her extensive catalog of chart-topping hit songs. Beyond her musical achievements, she is also the visionary founder of the highly successful beauty brand, Fenty Beauty.
