Tragedy Strikes Bajaur and Bannu
In a tragic incident in the Bajaur district, Abdul Razzaq, the brother of Dr. Tariq, a prominent leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Tuesday in the Loi Sam area. According to initial reports from local police, armed men opened fire on Abdul Razzaq, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime.
Quadcopter Attack in Bannu
Separately, a quadcopter attack occurred in the Bakakhel Customs area of Bannu, resulting in one fatality and four injuries. According to Rab Nawaz Khan, the Regional Police Officer of Bannu, the attack was carried out by terrorists affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij. An explosive device was dropped from a drone within the jurisdiction of the Baka Khel police station. The explosion killed Khatirullah, the son of Gul Bahadur, while four others were injured. The injured individuals include Saifullah, aged 14 to 15, the son of Khatirullah; Asal Jan, the son of Gul Marjan; Ameerullah, the son of Mir Aslam; and Shakir. All four are currently receiving treatment at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Bannu.
Khan also mentioned that police have successfully prevented several quadcopter attacks targeting security forces by deploying anti-drone guns and other security measures at key locations such as police stations, checkpoints, and sensitive areas.
Counterterrorism Efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
According to a six-month performance report by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, significant counterterrorism operations were conducted across the province in the first half of this year. During this period, the police eliminated 306 terrorists and arrested 347 wanted suspects. The report highlighted that among those killed were 25 key terrorist commanders who had bounties worth millions of rupees. Additionally, 30 high-value commanders were arrested and are currently under investigation.
The report also noted that 980 terrorism cases were registered in the province between January and June. In the same timeframe, charge sheets were submitted against 3,808 accused individuals, while 3,161 suspects remain at large. Bannu emerged as the most affected district, with 172 terrorism-related cases registered.

Despite these efforts, the region continues to face challenges from militant groups. The use of drones in attacks has become a growing concern, prompting law enforcement to enhance their strategies.
