Dhaka, May 17 — Three individuals affiliated with the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-Main) were taken into custody during a search operation in the Budangchhara region within the Guimara area of the Chittagong Hill Tracts on Saturday.
The individuals held in custody were named Sathoai Marma, aged 32, Ronel Chakma, 28 years old, and Sarching Marma, also known as Raju, who is 22.
As per a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Sathoai Marma suffered a gunshot wound to the neck during the operation.
According to intelligence reports, a military operation unit stationed itself in the Budangchhara region around midday. At a certain point, a group of armed individuals on two motorcycles tried to pass through the area.
When military personnel ordered them to cease, the suspects are said to have disregarded the command and fired upon the soldiers. The military personnel then responded with defensive fire, according to the statement.
Following the operation, security personnel retrieved one AK-22 rifle along with a magazine, six live bullets, one used bullet casing, and additional associated items from the location.
The injured Sathoai Marma received initial medical attention and was transported to the Ramgarh Upazila Health Complex, then moved to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital under police supervision for further treatment. He is now out of danger, according to the ISPR.
The statement mentioned that these actions by security agencies would persist in order to ensure peace, unity, and stability in the hilly area and to prevent extortion and militant activities.
