Napoleon Solo (7-1) claimed victory at the 151st Preakness Stakes held at Laurel Park! Jockeyed by Paco Lopez, the horse won by a length over 8-1 favorite Iron Honor. The win marked a significant moment for both the horse and its jockey.
The favorite, Taj Mahal (9-2), led for the majority of the race. However, Brittany Russell’s trained horse began to fall behind on the final turn and finished in tenth place. Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Ocelli (7-1) finished in fourth.
Before the horses had even left their posts on race day, history had already been made at this year’s Preakness Stakes. Laurel Park hosted the race for the first time in its 114-year track history, according to NBC4 Washington.
This year’s race had a significant character missing: Golden Tempo. The Kentucky Derby-winning horse that claimed the roses two weeks prior sat out of the Preakness Stakes to ensure full health and recovery in time for the Belmont Stakes on June 6.
Who Won the Preakness Stakes in 2026?
Napoleon Solo (7-1) is the winner of the 151st Preakness Stakes. Iron Honor (8-1) was beginning to catch up to Napoleon Solo, nearing the finish line, but couldn’t muster up enough steam to recover prior to crossing the finish line.
Favorite Taj Mahal led for the majority of the race, but the horse fell behind coming around the final corner. The favorite finished in tenth place, and stripped trainer Brittany Russell of becoming the first female trainer to win the Preakness Stakes.
This is jockey Paco Lopez’s first win at the Preakness Stakes. Unofficially, Napoleon Solo’s winning time was 1:58.69. Iron Honor and Chip Honcho (11-1) rounded out the top three in the race at Laurel Park. Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Ocelli (7-1 today) finished in fourth.
