Delta Goodrem’s Historic Eurovision 2026 Performance
Delta Goodrem made a lasting impression during her grand final performance at Eurovision 2026, bringing the audience to their feet and placing her on the brink of a historic victory. Despite falling just short of the win, her performance was nothing short of spectacular.
Goodrem delivered a powerful rendition of her song “Eclipse,” which featured dazzling lights and a wind machine that added to the dramatic effect. Her performance was so compelling that it left the audience in awe and earned her widespread praise from both fans and critics alike.
As one of the second favorites to win the contest, Goodrem’s performance was met with immense anticipation. After finishing her set, she quickly reached out to Today entertainment editor Richard Wilkins, asking if she had done well. Wilkins, who has covered her career extensively, was quick to commend her efforts.
“She’s such a sweetheart,” Wilkins said. “She asked, ‘Did I do all right?’ She’s sung the song a thousand times and finds something new in it every time. What I think she has done is the performance of her career so far. This takes her to a whole new level.”
During a video call, Wilkins told her, “You’re the Matildas, you’re Cathy Freeman… the whole of the country is just holding its breath and sending its love, it’s incredible.” Goodrem responded with gratitude, saying, “Oh thank you, I felt everybody with me in this entire journey and I just wanted to make everybody proud and do what I do.”
The crowd’s reaction was overwhelming, with chants of her name echoing through the venue. Goodrem was particularly moved by the number of Australians who had traveled to Vienna to support her. “How many people flew from Australia… it was definitely a lot of love,” she said.
UK star Graham Norton, who was reporting from the event, echoed similar sentiments. He noted, “If the audience could crown a winner right now, they would give it Australia. I hope her star power doesn’t go against her,” as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
Support for Goodrem came from across Australia, including fellow Eurovision participants. Dami Im, who represented Australia in 2016, encouraged her with a message: “COME ON YOU’VE GOT THIS.” GoJo, Australia’s contestant from last year, also sent a message of support: “YOUVE GOT IT IN THE BAG!!!❤️”
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also took to social media to express his support, writing, “Good luck at the Eurovision Grand Final, Delta. You’ve already made Australia proud. We’ll all be cheering you on.”
Despite her impressive performance, Goodrem finished second behind Finland’s Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen with their song “Liekinheitin.” Both TAB and Sportsbet had Australia as the second favorite to win, with odds at four to one.
Finland is the clear favorite, partly because Australia has never won Eurovision before. The idea of a non-European nation winning still makes some fans uneasy. However, the nation is united in supporting Goodrem after her remarkable semi-final performance, which secured her place in the Grand Final alongside countries like Malta, Denmark, Norway, Albania, and Cyprus.
Other countries in the Grand Final include Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Romania. The “big four” — France, Germany, Italy, and the UK — automatically qualify for the final.
Fans are not the only ones believing in Goodrem’s chances. Social media has been flooded with messages declaring her as Australia’s best bet to “bring it home” since Dami Im’s second-place finish in 2016 with “The Sound of Silence.”
Before heading to Vienna, Goodrem spoke exclusively with Nine.com.au, expressing her excitement about the positive energy surrounding her entry. “I love it, I love the passion, the positivity,” she said. “I’m gonna take all this incredible good energy and vibes with me and fly over to Vienna with it all.”
Traditionally, the Eurovision winner hosts the following year’s contest in their home country. However, Eurovision has stated that if Australia were to win, it wouldn’t be able to host the event. Instead, SBS would co-host the broadcast with another European broadcaster.
Despite this, Goodrem believes an exception should be made. “We’d be an amazing host,” she said. “Everyone coming to Australia, we’ve got the most beautiful country, we’d be great… we’d put on an incredible hosting.”
Goodrem remains focused on the present, paying no attention to such remarks. “I think that we saw was an awesome music show… I’m really happy that we’re a part of it. We’re there for a great time, and we give it a go!” she said.
When asked about Australia’s unique position as the only non-European country in the contest, she added, “I think we’re the only country part of it that’s not part of Europe… we’re always visiting anyway!”
