Paternity Dispute Continues to Delay Mohbad’s Burial Amidst Legal Wrangling
The late Nigerian singer Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, has firmly stated that his son will remain unburied until a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test is successfully conducted to establish the paternity of the singer’s child, Liam Aloba. This stance comes as a Lagos State Magistrate Court, sitting in Ikorodu, previously issued an order mandating such a test.
The court’s directive was a response to an application formally submitted by Joseph Aloba. Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga presided over the ruling that greenlit the DNA investigation, aiming to resolve lingering questions surrounding Liam’s biological father.
In a recent video shared on his personal TikTok account and observed by news outlets, Mr. Aloba articulated his frustrations, alleging that influential figures are actively working to obstruct the paternity testing process. He further revealed his intentions to explore legal avenues for transferring the case to a different jurisdiction, citing concerns about the integrity of the proceedings within Lagos State.
“Certain powerful individuals have joined forces to exploit Mohbad’s death and hinder my progress,” Mr. Aloba stated in the video. “Following the toxicology reports, which yielded no definitive results, they have now opted for a questionable DNA testing center.”
He continued, expressing his resolve to seek a change of venue: “If it is feasible, we will petition to transfer the case from Lagos to Ekiti State. I will be consulting with my legal counsel on this matter.”
Mr. Aloba emphasized his unwavering insistence on the DNA test, making a direct appeal to the Lagos State Government. He pleaded for permission to proceed with his son’s burial, reiterating that the paternity test is a non-negotiable prerequisite.
“I am appealing to the Lagos State Government to permit me to lay my son to rest. However, without the DNA test results, we cannot move forward. This test is a crucial piece of evidence,” he asserted. He also called upon the public to lend their support to his demand, highlighting the necessity of the test for clarifying fundamental facts.
Previous reports had indicated that the legal representatives for Mohbad’s family had voiced significant concerns regarding the qualifications and capabilities of some of the laboratories initially proposed for the paternity test.
According to the family’s counsel, Oladayo Ogungbe, the court had, on February 24, 2026, stipulated that the DNA test should be conducted across three mutually agreed-upon laboratories. This measure was intended to ensure a high degree of transparency and impartiality in the process. The laboratories identified were DNA Diagnostics Centre, AlphaBiolabs, and Advanced Histopathology Laboratory Limited.
Mr. Ogungbe further elaborated that initial inquiries and assessments had raised serious questions about the technical expertise and operational standards of certain facilities under consideration.
Mohbad’s untimely death in September 2023, under circumstances that have been widely described as controversial, ignited widespread public outcry and subsequently led to a complex web of legal disputes. These disputes have encompassed not only his estate and royalty rights but also, critically, the paternity of his son.
Liam Aloba was born in April 2023, a few months prior to the singer’s passing. The ongoing questions surrounding his paternity have continued to capture significant public attention and fuel the ongoing legal and familial discord.
The situation underscores the profound impact of unresolved paternity questions on familial grief and the legal ramifications that can ensue, particularly when significant assets and legacies are involved. The prolonged delay in burial highlights the deep emotional and legal chasm that still needs to be bridged.
The legal battle is expected to continue as Mr. Aloba pursues his demand for a conclusive DNA test, while also contemplating the strategic advantage of relocating the legal proceedings. The outcome will not only determine the rightful heir to Mohbad’s legacy but also provide closure for a grieving family and a public that has been deeply invested in the unfolding events.
The controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death and the subsequent paternity dispute serve as a stark reminder of the complexities that can arise in the aftermath of a public figure’s demise, particularly when personal and financial matters are intertwined. The demand for transparency and verifiable evidence remains at the forefront of this ongoing saga.
The legal framework for paternity testing in such high-profile cases is designed to ensure accuracy and fairness, but as Mr. Aloba’s allegations suggest, the process itself can become a battleground for influence and manipulation. The court’s intervention, while intended to facilitate a resolution, has also become a focal point of contention.
As the legal proceedings progress, the focus remains on achieving a definitive answer that will allow for the proper resolution of Mohbad’s estate and provide a clear lineage for his young son. The public’s continued interest reflects a broader societal concern for justice and the welfare of children born under such contentious circumstances. The path ahead remains uncertain, but the pursuit of truth through scientific and legal means is paramount.
