Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Visits PAS Spiritual Leader, Commends Healthcare Workers

George Town, Penang – March 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made a significant visit to Penang Hospital today, where he met with PAS spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin, who is currently receiving medical attention. The visit, part of the Prime Minister’s working trip to Penang and Kedah, offered a moment of personal connection amidst his official engagements.

In a social media update, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim shared that he made a special stop at the hospital to visit his “old friend” before proceeding with his scheduled activities. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to speak with Datuk Hashim Jasin at length, reporting that the spiritual leader is in good condition.

“Alhamdulillah, he is in good condition and we had the opportunity to speak at length,” the Prime Minister stated in his post. He also conveyed warm greetings from his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to Datuk Hashim Jasin and his family. “I also conveyed Azizah’s greetings to him and his family, and prayed for Ustaz Hashim’s well-being and a speedy recovery,” he added.

Datuk Hashim Jasin, aged 87, was admitted to Penang Hospital in late February. His admission followed a stenting procedure, and he is presently being monitored for cardiac complications. Family members have indicated that he is also managing kidney issues that necessitate regular dialysis treatment. Prior to his transfer to Penang for advanced care, he had initially received treatment at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah in Perlis.

The Prime Minister’s visit extended beyond meeting Datuk Hashim Jasin. While at Penang Hospital, he also took the time to visit a Ministry of Health nurse who sustained injuries in a road accident while commuting to work. This gesture underscores the Prime Minister’s recognition of the dedication and sacrifices made by frontline healthcare professionals.

“I appreciate the sacrifices of healthcare workers whose contributions in caring for and serving the community are invaluable,” Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remarked. His acknowledgement highlights the critical role these individuals play in the nation’s well-being, often at personal cost.

Furthermore, before concluding his visit to the hospital, the Prime Minister received a comprehensive update on an ongoing project aimed at upgrading the facilities at Penang Hospital. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of healthcare services available to the public.

“Before departing, I received an update on the project to upgrade facilities at Penang Hospital so that efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services can continue smoothly for the benefit of the people,” he confirmed. This focus on infrastructure development is crucial for ensuring that medical institutions can meet the evolving healthcare needs of the Malaysian population.

Datuk Hashim Jasin has held the esteemed position of PAS spiritual leader since October 2016. His appointment came from the party’s ulama council, following the passing of his predecessor, Datuk Haron Din. His leadership has been a significant influence within the party’s religious and ideological direction. The Prime Minister’s visit signifies a moment of bipartisan respect and concern for a prominent national figure.
