Foundation Distances Itself from Alleged Political Party Using “Keluarga Malaysia” Name

Kuala Lumpur – A prominent welfare foundation has issued a clear statement distancing itself from a newly reported political party that allegedly intends to use the name “Keluarga Malaysia.” Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the former prime minister and chairman of Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia (YKM), emphasized that the foundation has no affiliation whatsoever with any political entity bearing this name.

Ismail Sabri revealed that he was only recently made aware of the existence of this purported political party. He reiterated that YKM, a well-established organisation dedicated to supporting orphans and families in need, operates independently and has no connection to any political group that might adopt a similar moniker.

“This is the first I heard about it,” Ismail Sabri stated. “If there really is a Parti Keluarga Malaysia, it has absolutely no connection to YKM.” He added that the foundation would await any official announcements from the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (RoS) regarding the registration of such a party. While he had not yet personally verified the party’s existence, he indicated that YKM would proactively engage with the RoS if no official information emerged.

Reports have suggested that Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, the opposition leader, is slated to lead this newly formed “Parti Keluarga Malaysia.” This development follows his expulsion from the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in February. The party’s founder, Khairi Jaya, has reportedly confirmed these plans, indicating that the necessary arrangements for Hamzah to assume leadership are nearing completion.

The potential for confusion among the public, particularly among the foundation’s generous donors, is a significant concern for Ismail Sabri. He acknowledged that the adoption of a similar name by a political party could inadvertently lead to misunderstandings. “We are worried that many others may use the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ name. It could cause us difficulties as well,” he explained.

This concern stems from the foundation’s reliance on public contributions to fund its charitable activities. Ismail Sabri expressed apprehension that such confusion could erode public trust and confidence in YKM’s operations and its ability to effectively assist vulnerable children and families.

To safeguard its identity and reputation, the foundation is considering taking appropriate protective measures. These may include formally registering or even patenting the “Keluarga Malaysia” name. Such steps would aim to clearly delineate YKM as a distinct charitable entity and prevent any misattribution or dilution of its brand and mission.

The “Keluarga Malaysia” concept, often associated with a sense of unity and shared responsibility, has been a prominent theme in recent political discourse. However, its appropriation by a political party, especially one led by a figure like Hamzah Zainudin, raises questions about potential political maneuvering and the impact on non-political initiatives that have adopted similar branding. The YKM’s proactive stance underscores the importance of clear communication and brand protection in both the charitable and political spheres. The foundation remains committed to its core mission and will continue to operate with transparency and integrity, regardless of political developments.
