Former US President Donald Trump unleashed a fiery tirade on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Sunday, criticising the Super Bowl halftime show. The spectacle, headlined by Puerto Rican global superstar Bad Bunny, drew Trump’s ire for its perceived lack of Americanism and artistic merit.
Bad Bunny’s performance was a vibrant celebration of his roots, featuring a stage design that meticulously recreated his childhood neighbourhood. The majority of his performance was delivered in Spanish, a point that seemingly irked the former president. Trump did not hold back in his assessment, labelling Bad Bunny’s performance a “slap in the face to our country.” He declared the Super Bowl halftime show to be “absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!”
His lengthy post detailed his objections, stating, “It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence.” He further elaborated on his dissatisfaction with the musical artist’s language and stage presence.
“Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World,” Trump wrote, expressing concern for younger viewers.
He contrasted the perceived shortcomings of the halftime show with his own administration’s achievements, asserting, “This ‘Show’ is just a ‘slap in the face’ to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History!”
Trump dismissed the show’s potential positive reception from the media, predicting, “There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD.”
